Jessica Remer began her career in broadcast journalism. As the senior online content producer for KJRH-TV — the Tulsa, Oklahoma NBC affiliate — Jessica was a recipient of the 2014 National and Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for Broadcast Affiliated Website in Small Market Television. The KJRH digital team was recognized for its outstanding coverage of the 2013 Moore, Oklahoma tornado. In 2015, Jessica and her fellow producers were recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists for breaking news coverage regarding the execution of Clayton Lockett and best website design. In August 2015, Jessica joined Power Engineering as the online editor. In her current capacity, she contributes content to the magazine and its website and manages the publication’s various social media accounts. Jessica holds a Master of Arts in Communication Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication. When she’s not writing, Jessica enjoys reading and spending time with her family and pets.

Oregon Senate Passes Bill to Abandon Coal Power by 2030

Senate Bill 1547 requires Oregon’s electric utilities to abandon coal by 2030. The bill also increases the Renewable Portfolio Standard for the state’s three largest utilities, requiring them to procure at least half their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2040.

GE will supply two 9E.03 gas turbines and electrical Balance of Plant (eBOP) equipment for the 250-MW Bouchemma power plant, the equivalent power needed to supply more than 1.2 million Tunisian homes. Delivery is anticipated in approximately 7 months, in time for the 2016 summer tourist season.

FERC Orders MISO to Redesign Capacity Auction After Ameren Illinois Rate Hikes

In a Dec. 31 order, FERC said the process MISO uses to set capacity rates is no longer just and reasonable and must be altered before the next planning auction. The decision could lead to future refunds for Ameren Illinois customers, who experienced a price hike about 40-times higher than customers in other MISO zones.
