Gas Wartsila wins deal for 132 MW plant in Bahamas A 132 MW power plant running on seven dual-fuel engines is to be built in the Bahamas. Clarion Energy Content Directors 3.11.2019 Share A 132 MW power plant running on seven dual-fuel engines is to be built in the Bahamas. The plant will be delivered on a fast-track engineering, procurement, and construction contract by Finnish technology group Wartsila for utility Bahamas Power and Light and is expected to be operation by the end of the summer. Bahamas Power and Light need the plant to improve grid reliability on the island. The seven Wärtsilä engines will primarily run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) when it becomes locally available, but in the meantime will operate on conventional heavy fuel oil. The plant will be capable of reaching full output from start-up in a matter of minutes, which Wartsila says will become vital as a balancing mechanism as the Bahamas prepares to introduce large scale windpower and solar plants. Marking Wartsila’s first major EPC contract in the Bahamas, the plant will be on the island of New Providence and will replace an existing facility which currently runs on slow reciprocating engines. ………………………………………………………..
